With 400 years of a rich, vibrant history, Petersburg has shown incredible resilience and is a city on the rise. Here you will find cobblestones streets, stunning architecture, delightful shopping, craft beer, award-winning dining, and beautiful lodgings.
Not just a great place to visit, it’s a wonderful place to live and do business with a plethora of apartments housed in historic buildings, often right above small businesses below, as well as beautiful historic neighborhoods that surround us. We welcome urban dwellers and entrepreneurs! Did we mention we have the beautiful Appomattox River running past us too?

WHO ARE WE, WHY MAIN STREET, AND WHAT DO WE DO?
Main Street Petersburg is a 501c3 charitable organization founded to improve
and revitalize Petersburg’s Historic Downtown. Our Board of Directors follows
the Main Street Approach and promotes volunteerism and stakeholder
involvement as the best path to a more flourishing and livable Petersburg.
Each of Main Street Petersburg’s four committees (Design, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Promotions) works to advance the following three Transformation Strategies for Downtown Prosperity:
Dining, Arts, and Entertainment
Tourism
Neighborhood Amenities
We organize clean-ups, help coordinate downtown events and promotions,
provide information to assist business and property owners, and, through
partnerships at a local, state and national level, are able to provide services
and attract grants for Downtown Improvements.
Belonging to the Main Street family offers incredible support, resources and guidance. Main Street Petersburg is a part of not only Virginia Main Street, but also falls under the huge umbrella of Main Street America. All across the nation, hundreds of communities just like ours, have transformed and
grown using the key 4 Main Street Pillars.

Our footprint covers the Downtown Petersburg, including Old Towne Petersburg and extends from Halifax Triangle north to the Appomattox River and from I-95 westwards to Market St.

Address appearance and litter issues by involving more than 200 individuals and 25 businesses in Downtown improvement activities

Raise $150,000 of operational funds and a minimum of $50,000 for activities

Hire a director and open an office
